Packless water-source heat pump coils operate very effectively as either refrigerant condensers or refrigerant evaporators when transferring heat with water. This makes them an ideal choice for both water-source heat pumps and water-cooled condenser applications.

The coils utilize a coaxial "tube-in-tube" design. Water flows through the inner tube while refrigerant flows in the annulus between the inner and outer tubes.

The key to the high performance of Packless coils lies in the convoluted multi-lead inner tube manufactured in a patented* process. The resulting convoluted tube has increased heat transfer surface area per unit length yet still permits full flow of both water and refrigerant around its entire periphery for improved performance. Turbulence imparted by the convolutions to both the water and refrigerant flows further enhances the thermal performance, while inhibiting the accumulation of deposits on the surfaces. The net result is a highly effective, compact heat exchanger with superior anti-fouling characteristics.

The coils utilize a coaxial "tube-in-tube" design.

Optimum heat transfer with Packless water-source heat pump coils is achieved with a counterflow arrangement of water and refrigerant during condensing and parallel flow during evaporating (heating mode).

Standard sizes are available in space saving shapes for nominal 1/2 through 30 ton systems. Standard models are available with either copper or 90-10 cupro-nickel inner tubes surrounded by steel outer tubes (shells). Copper inner tubes are recommended for fresh and cooling tower water applications while cupro-nickel is recommended for ground and sea water applications.

For non-standard applications, Packless coils can be obtained on a special order basis with copper shells instead of steel, or with different tonnages, shapes, mounting brackets, and refrigerant fittings. Please consult factory with requirements.

Packless water-source heat pump coils are approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (U.L.) and the Canadian Standards Association (C.S.A.) for use with the following refrigerants:

R12 R134A R402B R407C R410B R508
R22 R401A R404A R408A R412A R509
R23 R401B R407A R409A R502
R125 R402A R407B R410A R507

Maximum working pressures are 400 psig on the water side and 650 psig on the refrigerant side.

Packless water-source heat pump coils are covered by one or more of the following U.S. patents: 5409057, 5551504, 5311661.
